Breaking Bubbles! Using Digital Movement Building for Community Connection
Hacker Stage
This session examines how political tech platforms can break entrenched “political bubbles” and strengthen connections between citizens, institutions and community stakeholders. It outlines how programme managers can use both mass-reach tools (Meta platforms, TikTok) and targeted channels (WhatsApp, Signal) to amplify messages, mobilise supporters and build durable coalitions that achieve measurable impact.
Drawing on experience from digital movement-building within the American diaspora community, particularly Democrats Abroad, the session shows how strategic use of political tech can broaden engagement beyond narrow organisational circles. It highlights practical lessons on deploying new tools, integrating them into professional party management systems and preparing for scalability across volunteer-led and professional-led environments.
